People who live in the same household as someone with COVID-19 are at the highest risk of becoming infected because they are most likely to have prolonged close contact. National guidance is provided for individuals who need to leave their home when they have symptoms or have tested positive, including avoiding close contact with people with a weakened immune system, wearing a face-covering and avoiding crowded places. If you have a positive COVID-19 test result, you are advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for five days, which is when you are most infectious. If you have symptoms of a respiratory infection, including COVID-19, and a high temperature or feel unwell, you are advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until you feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
